Today is the day. I won’t be offering any cost savings or marketing tips on my blog this morning.  Rather, I want to provide instructions for those who wish to participate in my video consulting this afternoon.

As regular readers of this blog know, I am a licensed Insurance Counselor.  To some, that may not mean anything.  To others it means that I am a super-agent.  The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

In the State of Texas, where I live, the title of Insurance Counselor is not a mere formality.   The Texas Department of Insurance only grants that license to people who have demonstrated a superior level of knowledge with 20 or more years of experience.

I just reread the above paragraph and agree, it sounds less than modest.  It is, however, the way Texas requirement play out.

Currently, there are less than 1000 licensed Insurance Counselors to serve the insurance needs of 26 million Texans.

This afternoon, between 2 and 4, I will be available to answer questions about health insurance for people who are confused about how the PPACA will affect them in the next 4 year.  Below are instructions for people who are not usually comfortable on the computer but have questions.

To participate in the event this afternoon you will need a computer and a web cam.

If you are reading this blog you probably already have access to a computer.  Many of the newer computers come with a web cam already installed.  If you are using a notebook or netbook type of computer the camera is usually located in the center of the lid, right above your monitor screen.

If you are using a desk top model the odds are, if you have a web cam, it is separate from your computer and attaches to your computer with a USB wire.

This video event uses VOIP technology to allow us to communicate so that we can see each other.  While there may be other systems available, for this event I will be using the free Skype software.  It allows us to visit by video call for as long as we wish.  The only criteria is that both of us need to have the free Skype software downloaded on our computers.

To obtain the free Skype software,  go to my other blog, TIB TIPS and click on the photo of the woman with her computer at the top of the side board on the right.  She is located right above the calendar.

Once you have downloaded the free Skype software you will be asked to test your equipment.  The software will look to find your speakers, microphone and camera.  It should be a simple matter of clicking the test buttons to make certain everything is working the way it is supposed to.

I will be on line from 2-4 PM this afternoon.   My Skype ID is tim.barnes31.  If you are confused over your health insurance and have a question or concern about your policy or the future requirements that affect individuals in the PPACA, please call me.

Please be advised.   There are strong opinions, both for and against, the PPACA.  This is not the forum to rehash political arguments for either side.  The PPACA is the current law of the land.  This event is not to debate to pros and cons of the law.  This event is to help people understand and respond to the mandates of the law.
